Remote Control of Offshore Assets in Guyana
In the fast-growing offshore energy sector off the coast of Guyana, a leading international operator set out to strengthen collaboration between its onshore and offshore teams. From its operations center in Georgetown, the company can now monitor and support multiple FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading units) simultaneously. To make this possible, INTER designed and realized a future-proof setup of control and collaboration spaces.
The Beating Heart of an FPSO
On each FPSO, oil, gas and water are separated and stored before transfer to shuttle tankers. The control room functions as the nerve center of these operations, where operators continuously monitor and manage production, storage and transfer processes. Continuity, safety and efficiency are key priorities in this high-stakes environment.
Future-Proof Workstations for Maximum Control
The new control rooms are equipped with advanced workstations based on innovative Barco technology. All sources from the FPSOs are now directly accessible at multiple integrated workstations onshore. Operators can manage nearly 20 different subsystems using just one keyboard and mouse.
Previously, operators needed to move between various consoles to perform checks. Today, all essential information is instantly available at their workstations, resulting in major time savings and improved operational efficiency
Redundancy for Maximum Operational Reliability
Because offshore production must continue 24/7 without interruption, strict requirements were set for system availability. INTER's solution is fully redundant, featuring dual networks, firewalls and servers. This ensures that all primary processes remain operational, even in the event of technical failures.
Remote Onshore FPSO Control
By enabling full operational control from shore, the number of personnel required onboard (Personnel on Board, POB) has been reduced. Each FPSO now has its own Integrated Operations Center (IOC) that maintains a continuous live connection with the offshore units. Thanks to this integration, operators can monitor and control FPSOs safely and efficiently from land.
To achieve this, the entire setup was designed to meet stringent industry requirements. INTER's installation is ABS-approved, ensuring compliance with the highest safety and reliability standards for offshore operations.
